Air Force One[]
At the White House Situation Room, Egor Korshunov contacts Bennett, threatening to kill a hostage every half hour until Radek is released. Meanwhile, the U.S. military locates the escape pod but finds it empty. Unbeknownst to the hijackers, President Marshall stayed aboard the plane to rescue everybody. He contacts the White House via satellite phone, reminding Bennett not to negotiate with the terrorists. Bennett reminds the cabinet that Marshall is a retired military aviator, Vietnam War veteran, and Medal of Honor recipient, who flew many rescue missions, and can handle himself in combat situations. The rest of the cabinet doesn't want to take a chance with the president's life, but Bennett, despite being split on her opinions, supports Marshall's intervention, knowing that he may be the only chance anyone has. Marshall sends a fax to the White House, instructing the refueling tanker to force the plane low enough for the hostages to parachute to safety. Soon, Bennett is forced to contact Russian President Petrov to endorse Radek's release. Later, the cabinet places a signed petition to have her be sworn in as president, since Marshall is likely dead. She refuses to sign the document, however, and later rips it up after Marshall kills Korshunov, retakes Air Force One and orders Ivan Radek to be shot while resisting arrest. Bennett is last seen smiling, happy that Marshall is alive.
Despite all the tension, Bennett remained calm and collected during the entire ordeal, and refused to make risky or poor decisions.
