Denzel Washington (born December 28, 1954) is an award-winning American stage, film and television actor, director and producer. He is best known for his role as Dr. Phillip Chandler on the medical drama series "St. Elsewhere" and for his various appearances in film productions by the likes of Spike Lee, Jonathan Demme, Jerry Bruckheimer, Tony Scott, Norman Jewison, Antoine Fuqua, Edward Zwick and Carl Franklin. Washington received two Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award and two Academy Awards and these included the films Cry Freedom, Glory, Malcolm X and Training Day. He has directed two separate but well-received dramas based on true life stories: 2002's Antwone Fisher and 2007's The Great Debators (with Forest Whitaker) and he co-starred in both of them as well.
