Civic Arena (formerly the Civic Auditorium and Mellon Arena, nicknamed The Igloo) was an arena located in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Civic Arena was the main setting of Sudden Death.

DescriptionEdit

The Civic Arena primarily served as the home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the city's National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, from 1967 to 2010. It was the first retractable roof major-sports venue in the world, covering 170,000 sq. feet and constructed with nearly 3,000 tons of Pittsburgh steel, and supported solely by a massive 260-foot-long cantilevered arm on the exterior. Even though it was designed and engineered as a retractable-roof dome, the hydraulic jacks never functioned consistently, thus keeping the roof permanently closed after 1994.

Civic Arena was closed in June 26, 2010 and was demolished in from September 26, 2011 to March 31, 2012. The site is now converted to a parking lot. The Pittsburgh Penguins now played in a new arena Consol Energy Center.

Sudden DeathEdit

The Civic Arena was where Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals between The Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins took place. The Vice President of the United States, Daniel Binder, went to attend the game in the luxury box. Then a group of terrorists, led by sinister ex-U.S. Government agent Joshua Foss, silently seized control of the arena by taking over the box and rigging the arena with C-4 explosives, threatened to detonate them at the end of the game if the terrorists don't get $1 billion in ransom.

Darren McCord, a disgraced former Pittsburgh firefighter now a fire marshal in Civic Arena, brought his two children to watch the game when his daughter Emily witnessed the female terrorist killing one of the arena's employees. Then McCord discovers the crime operation taking place in the arena and scrambles to save his children and everyone else in the arena.
